Auto add Meta description Tag using post excerpt for search engine

    Thanks for active forum for best theme here in wordpress.

    My question is there is a way to add meta description
    <meta name=”description” content=”POST EXCERPT HERE.”/>

    For Single post use excerpt (115 characters (including spaces)

    For Category use Category Description (or custom description)
    For Author Page (use bio or custom description)
    For Tag pages (Use TAG description or Custom Description)

    there are plenty of plugin which do it auto like all in one seo, yoast etc etc.

    Problem is they have inbuilt lots of feature & if you want only description tag other function is not useful, just make server loading issue.

    including some code in theme is better then use plugin every time

  • Hi bhaskarping. If you’re talking about adding a meta field to the post/page options, that’s a good bit of customization. If you’re comfortable with “including some code in theme” then you might install one of the plugins you mentioned and look at the code. Then you can figure out which pieces you might want to include in your site, copy the theme files to a child theme, and make the modifications there.
