I have 7 WP blogs, and virtually every week at least one auto backup will fail, and I have to do it manually.

Today I checked and the following occurred-

On my blog https://www.cutbaddebts.com the Event Log showed this:

22nd Mar 2013 12.06.37 AM Error The backup failed: Communication with the online backup vault failed; more information can be found in the Activity Log.
22nd Mar 2013 12.06.37 AM Error A transmission operation failed.
If the following error message is not clear as to the problem and the issue persists, please contact support providing the complete event log for the activity. Diagnostic information follows:

    Failed at: /home/debts/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wponlinebackup/include/transmission.php(929)
A request failed for API Status.
Please ensure your blog is able to perform HTTPS requests to https://wordpress.backup-technology.com. You may need to contact your web host regarding this.

I have manually backed up both these blogs just now without any problem.

Surely it can’t be anything to do with the fact I have installed WP Super Cache to all my blogs, otherwise I assume all my blogs would be negatively affected and fail to auto backup?

    Hi freedom1,

What is the version you have installed? Of our plugin? Can you provide the information from the Help & Support area?
This could be related to congestion on the weekend to our online servers. Latest versions of the plugin cope fine with this but some older ones get timeout errors.

    Hi Jason,

It’s the latest version of backup I’m using on all my blogs.

From the Help and Support area:

Online Backup for WordPress Plugin Version 2.2.18
    WordPress Version: 3.5.1

    Hi freedom1,

I think a permanent fix for you would be to shift the backup to just before midnight, so around 11-11.30 PM. It is quieter then.

I can now see at midnight we get a huge spike and a few requests get dropped. I’ve done some tweaking to accommodate; it should stop this happening. So if you want to keep it midnight it’s up to you and just let us know if you spot any more failures.

Seems the spike is slipping through our monitoring with it lasting absolutely no longer than 30 minutes! I’ll have to get that looked at ??

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for that. I have 7 blogs,so I’ve changed the backup times from between 9 pm and 11 pm just to spread them out.

I’ll report back if there are still issues.

    Geoff
