• Hello,

I checked your post at https://www.eurosoftlab.com/en/phoenix-media-rename/

I would like to suggest to features:

1# Auto rename upon uploading to a post, especially for Woocommerce products, we usually upload 20-35 images for one product, manual work is really hard.

2# Auto serialize file names but not manually assigned, for SEO purposes, there is no difference between my-post-image-1.jpg, and my-post-image-2.jpg, I mean the serialized number means nothing for Search engine ranking, right?

    Questions:

1# Does it work relying on WordPress API, or working out of the box please?
2# When trying to bulk rename, What is the difference between “Rename from post” and Rename & Retitle from Post please?

Thanks, and have a nice day.

    Hi @alexsina,
Phoenix Media Rename works on files already added to Media Library, not during upload, so it is not possible to add the feature you are requesting, in addition, using this system you would have many files with the same keyword, risking a SEO penalty.

The “Rename from post” simply set the file name equal to the post title (if the file is attached to a post), the “Rename & Retitle” set both file name and file title getting them from the post title.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi @alexsina,
in the rush I did not answer all your questions:
Phoenix Media Rename uses WordPress API for standard renaming process and custom code for compatibility with other plugin (if another plugin uses non-standard code, I need to use the same approach to interact with it).

I confirm that, for SEO purposes, the serialized number is useless, this could be a good practice for a small amount of images, but (as stated in my previous reply) this can have a negative effect for SEO if you have many images with the same name, in this case the only feasible solution is manually rename the files.

    Thanks. I see.

Manually renaming is really tough work, we usually upload 50 products and 30 images/products, and that will be around 1500 images for one day.

Maybe an option to on/off bulk renaming and auto renaming union uploading?

    Hi @alexsina,
Phoenix Media Rename can’t change the filename during the upload process, this would require a completely new implementation because it requires different API and a different data flow.

Maybe the easiest solution is bulk renaming the file on your pc before the upload, this is fast and easy and don’t require any software ??

    Hi @alexsina,
I’m testing a new version of Phoenix Media Rename that add the support for auto serialization of filenames: if a filename is already present, a new one will be generated with a progressive number as a trailer.

Maybe this will help you, I hope to release the update on next Monday.
