• Hello,

AWESOME PLUGIN thank you! Just one question… I cannot find a setting to AUTO unlink broken links found. The problem is we have thousands of broken links on a site and the script keeps timing out (increased on server and in settings to 90 seconds) so we cannot do more than 10 at a time.

What I would like to do is AUTO unlink any broken links found… is there a way to achieve this?

    Thank you in advance!

  • Sorry, right now there is no way to do that.

There’s no “auto unlink” option because it would be very dangerous. Sometimes the plugin can incorrectly flag working links as broken. If it was set up to automatically remove broken links, it might end up removing a bunch of working links as well.

For example, some sites are configured to allow human visitors but block automated requests. When the plugin tries to check a link to one of those sites (this involves one or more automated requests), it will typically be blocked and get an “access denied” or “page not found” error of some kind. As a result, the plugin will flag the link as broken even though it would work fine if you tried it yourself.

    Hi Janis,
Thank you for your quick response.

The problem is we have so many links that even bulk unlinking them is a problem due to volume of visitors and we already being over 200 max DB connections so going higher is not a good idea.

What would have been great if we could enable a feature like that temporarily, then disable after the first run.

I am happy to make a donation / pay for the feature ??

Well, if you already have performance problems, making the process automatic might just make them worse. Instead of the script timing out when you’re bulk unlinking stuff (inconvenient, but predictable), the site could time out seemingly randomly due to automatic unlinking happening in the background.

I think improving and optimizing the bulk unlink function would be a more practical solution. For example, maybe it could process links in batches over a longer period of time, instead of trying (and failing) to do everything in X seconds. It’s on my long term to-do list.

That would be the idea, if auto unlinking have a time limiter to only do X amounts of unlinks per min/hour instead of loads at once. But yes, bulk unlinking would be more piratical if that also does them in batches.

All right, improving the “unlink” function is on the long term to-do list.
