Although automatic updating is off, today I received a mail that the plugin was automatically updated.

  • I confirm the problem.
The plugin has been updated automatically 4.09 – > 4.10, but automatic updating is disabled in the settings (!!!).

These extensions are now up to date :
    – All in One SEO Pack (from version 4.0.8 to 4.0.10)

There have been 2 of the sites I manage that have been updated, for the others, they are still with the old version 4.X or version 3 for one of the sites that had been crashed by the update a few days ago.

Receiving this kind of mail on Sunday when you wake up after a shitty week… It’s priceless!

And if you look on the security side, if it can update itself as it wants, it can also retrieve sensitive information, email addresses, connection information… A plugin which seems to have no more pilot on board !

    Hello!

Same problem here. I turned off automatic AIOSEO updates and I have plugin to prevent automatic updates, but nothing help – AIOSEO was automatically updated from 4.0.9 to 4.0.10. How is this possible?

    Best regards,

    R.

Same problem here. Auto updates are turned off. Still getting e-mails that say the plugin was updated.

Same problem. I have All in One SEO installed on 2 websites. Both are set to Auto-updates disabled yet this morning both auto updated to the latest version.
This is the email I received:
“Hi! Some plugins have automatically updated to their latest versions on your site. No further action is needed on your part.

    Hey All,

We are actively looking into this issue. We have a wrapper to manage the auto updates inside of our settings, but it just wraps the WordPress auto updater and as long as you have it set to none inside our settings it should not update: https://a.supportally.com/vZutJV

We will let you know as soon as we have a fix for this. Thanks for your patience!

Same for me and it’s also disabled :-/

    Hi,

Multiple sites have updated to 4.0.11 without my permission and while all auto updates are disabled.

I/we do not want to hear that ‘it shouldn’t happen’ and we are looking into.

Your once reliable plugin has destroyed hundreds of pages of social meta data on multiple sites, broken layout (and this after I fixed the problems and told you last week, I will be disabling all updates).

Can I send an invoice to your new owners for all the time I have spent in the last week ‘fixing problems caused by you’.

This is not about the hard working developers and people on the ground, this is about money grabbing owners intent on pushing for monetisation.

They say that ‘wealth is no measure of intelligence’ and clearly demonstrated here.

How dare you update my websites without my permission

For everyone reading this, this plugin has come to the end of its life as we know/knew it.

Migrate everything you have now, while you still can.

    Hey everyone,

First of all, we want to apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you all.

I just wanted to give you an update and let you know that we’ve decided to remove our own auto-update functionality all together since this issue seems to be happening on a limited amount of websites and we aren’t able to reproduce it on our end.

Unfortunately, because the current version still includes that code, it will probably auto-update one more time.

If the issue goes away after 4.0.12, then we must have messed something up and that’s definitely on us. If it doesn’t go away however, then there might be some obscure WordPress bug that you’re running into and we’ll continue to troubleshoot that accordingly.

AIOSEO 4.X releases should apparently have been AIOSEO beta series.

    @stemcpt

Before I delete AIOSEO, I’m hoping I can find an alternative that preserves all the Title and Description info I’ve built up over the past year. Do you have a recommendation?

My site is (fortunately) a small, locally-focused one with only a few thousand readers, but I’d still like it to present information properly to search engines.
