• I’m trying the autoupdate option to update my wordpress installation to 2.8.3, but after entering the ftp details, and clicking Proceed, I get a screen with the top bar and the side navigation, but a completely blank content area. The browser is trying to open something, but after ~ 10 mins it times out.

I never see any error messages. Is there a log somewhere with error messages?

I see that it creates a wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-2.8.3 directory, but it doesn’t seem to do anything else. I’ve tried deleting the wp-content/upgrade, but the same thing happens.

I think I auto upgraded from 2.7.x to 2.8 automatically, and it worked fine.

    Anyone got any ideas?

  • The golden rule for upgrading anything is to backup! If you have a backup, restore that. This time around, upgrade it manually to see if the same bug existed! Also, before doing the suggestion above, you could try reactivate or activate a new theme for your blog. Maybe the older theme is not compatible and is throwing an error, but your PHP server is not spitting it out onto the monitor, instead it may log the error to an error log that you have specified in your server! Look for that log to see if you could find any clue. The PHP log may not be there if you didn’t configure your PHP to do so!

I am having a similar issue when upgrading to version 2.8.3. I get this error but I don’t know what it means…any help would be greatly appreciated.
