I am getting this error message in a few websites as soon as they are updated above version 15.8

    /public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/integrations/watchers/auto-update-watcher.php on line 194

Any suggestions as to what may have changed or is there a fix coming soon?

    Hi @thewpguy

We’re sorry to hear that you’re encountering this issue.

On that particular website where the issue is occurring, can you confirm you are on the latest version of WordPress 5.7.2, the latest version of your other plugins and themes, and your website is meeting the necessary plugin requirements? Does this occur when you attempt to update to Yoast SEO v16.2?

Do you also have a screenshot and more information on the specific error message you are receiving or is (/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/integrations/watchers/auto-update-watcher.php on line 194) the entire error message received? Does this appear in the WordPress backend or only in your server logs?

    Hi Michael,

The error only occured when updating to any version above 15.8 including 16.2
    WordPress verson is 5.7.2
Themes (Divi) both up to date

For privacy reasons I just took the website address off the front of the error message and hence can’t show a screenshot.
It appears at the top of all wordpress admin area pages and not on the front end. Not sure about server logs.

Thanks for your confirmation. The error you have shared with us isn’t actually showing an error but only indicating the file and line number. So, can you please make sure that you’re not missing the error that you’re seeing on your end? Is this a fatal error, a PHP warning about missing something?

We look forward to hearing from you.

It’s probably similar issue as https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/16770.

Did you install some plugin which handles auto-updates? Since WP 5.5, auto update of plugin/theme is embedded feature in WP core – https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2020/07/15/controlling-plugin-and-theme-auto-updates-ui-in-wordpress-5-5/

Thanks for the info/link Sasa, I am using WP Time Capsule as mentioned in that link. I don’t want to use the core auto update feature as WP Timecapsule makes backups before each update so it manages the process a bit more smoothly.

MD (plugin support)I will have to update the plugin again to see the full error and when I do I’ll post it here.

    Hi,

Please do try to update to v16.3 of the Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin and provide us with a screenshot and more details of the exact error message that appears. Thanks!
