    Hi Tobias,

Due to the nature of what type of plugin it is – anti-spam/security – it requires vigilance and frequent updates. It isn’t more than 1-2 updates per week at the most. Through your WordPress dashboard it’s a one-click update so hopefully that’s not too much trouble.

You don’t necessarily need to update the plugin the day the new release comes out. It’s a good idea though.

Eventually I plan to add a feature where the plugin can download certain updates from our server, but due to www.ads-software.com plugin rules, plugin developers can’t do what you’re asking without having users specifically opt in, and for feasibility it will probably have to be a premium level feature. We likely wouldn’t be able to provide automatic updates for free due to development and server costs. Keep in mind the plugin has a LOT of users. (If you notice, the plugins that do what you’re asking require a paid subscription.)

I hope that helps answer your question.

    Hi Scott.

Just to add my voice, I would really appreciate an auto-update feature. Wordfence does this on its free version and it is a big convenience, especially if you have more than one blog. Have you thought of the idea of a premium key for the feature that could be used across multiple blogs? I would gladly pay for such a feature; I am sure a lot of others would as well.

Thanks for all the hard work and a great plugin!

    Hi Glinda,

Thanks for the feedback. Your feedback as a plugin user is very important and helps shape the future development. Wordfence is a great plugin that we use as well and highly recommend. I’m working on plans for a premium version in the future that will incorporate this and some other innovative features.

    You are very welcome! ??

So, I stand corrected. Looked into it a bit, and it turns out WordPress already has an automatic plugin update feature that is turned off by default. There is a handy plugin that takes care of this, and until we launch our premium version, I think this might be exactly what you guys are looking for: Advanced Automatic Updates. It will allow you to have your plugins automatically update.
