The free version of UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore does not allow the new version of WordPress 5.5. to automatically update the plugin. Every other plugin on my site has the option ‘Enable auto-updates’ under the column “Automatic Updates” on the plugin page, but not UpdraftPlus. When it is activated, it is written “Auto-updates disabled” (with no link), but when I deactivate the plugin, I can “enable auto-updates”.

    Hi,

Do you have any other plugin that manages updates for your website?

@bcrodua No, I don’t. Apparently, plugins need to update to support this new feature in WordPress 5.5. I know because one of my other plugins was updated and the changelog included support for WordPress auto-update. That would mean UpdraftPlus is not compatible yet.

Thanks for reporting this to us. I will do some tests and see if I can replicate the issue.

    Hi,

This is because UpdraftPlus has an existing auto-update option (in the ‘expert’ settings section). In those cases, WP disables ability to tweak the option on the main “Plugins” page to avoid confusion.

A future release will harmonise the options so that it is available in both places. Until then, you can only edit the option inside the UpdraftPlus settings.

@tompo0323 In UpdraftPlus, if you enable Expert Settings, and switch on ‘Allow WordPress to update UpdraftPlus’, then the Auto-Update setting on the Plugin Summary page is changed from Disabled to Enabled
