auto upgrade to 2.8. failed. blog now returns error.

since trying to do an auto update to WP2.8 the entire blog has dissappaered and i get this error message:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wp_clone() in /home/username/public_html/blogname/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2900

i tried to do an automatic upgrade to WP2.8. the upgrade failed and gave me several pages worth of code which i did not really look at.

can this mean i’m “stuck” between 2 versions?

am i completely stuffed?

ps this is a rewrite of an older post. i had thought the problem came about was when i was upgrading some plugins but i’ve renamed the plugin folder and still get the above error message.
