• I would love to have the ability to set up WP to close the comments on posts automatically after a set amount of time, say a month. It is quite annoying getting lame comments on posts 7 months old.

    I agree.

Someone developed a hack for MT that allows the comments to close after the post has fallen off the front page.
I think that this would be a wonderful thing to add to WP. ??

This would be an interesting hack.

Allusion, I think it would be a wonderful hack to have. Would it be difficult though?

    This sounds cool.
Though would it be possible to mark certain entries so that their comments aren’t turned off? I have a few posts where the comments go on for a while, and I would like them to remain open ??

Hi Laughing Lizard, I used the b2edit you have on your server and it’s not working on my blog. ?? I went into the past and put in a comment back at the beginning of November.
    Help! Please! ??

Well, I went and downloaded and uploaded the new code. Still not working. Thanks for trying though! ??

Thanks for the comment on the blog LL! ?? I see it works, wheeeeeeeeee!

Now in function on my blog.

Thank you for this hack! It works beautifully and seems like it’d help cut down on comment spam if you were having that problem (the only times I got comment spamed were on old posts).

I think Jaykul is on the right track with this. I see the usefulness of things like inline ‘more’ breaks to simplify content editing, pagination, etc., but inlining any other tagging is just, well, ugly. An extra state in the status type would work just great.
Are there other things like comment status that’d benefit from an extra state, for more customization opportunities? Just figured I’d help kick off a brainstorm. ??

It works, that’s all I care about ??

Can this please be developed to work with WP 1.0 and beyond?

the new version doesnt work for me, i get an error on line 197 (or where it says ” SELECT post_title, ID FROM $tableposts “)
