Automated emails stating Administrator password has been reset!!

    Afternoon. Hopefully, someone can help. Over the past week or so I have received several automated emails to my WordPress administrator email address with the same message namely:

    Someone, hopefully you, has reset the Administrator password for your WordPress blog. Details follow:

    In the details that follow, the email provides a new auto-generated password. A combination of worrying and frustration as I have done any resets that would trigger such a message.

    I have never received this email before, and my site has been up and running for just over 2 years.

  • Looks like someone might be hitting the “Forgot password?” link. I suggest you to not click on any link in those messages (just in case).

    As @a2hostingrj suggested above, those are probably just Forgot password emails and don’t have to worry too much about those. Make sure you make regular offline backups, just in case.

    You may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

    If you think your account has been hacked (in case you see any strange activity in the next days), take a deep breath and carefully follow this guide.

    Thanks for your respective responses. Much appreciated. I don’t think I have been hacked and there was no link in the emails.

    However, there was an auto-generated new password containing random alphanumeric and special characters in the emails which I have had to use and then change in the admin role, so to me this looks more than just someone pretending to be the administrator and forgetting the password.

    In the meantime, I will have a look at the recommended security measures.
