Automatic 'by' name in Posts and Pages

    When you write a Post or Page a date is automatically inserted and so is the author name. It reads ‘by (author name)’.
    My question is, Where does this name come from? What box in what area? Can you change this name?
    At the moment it is taking the name I sign with into WordPress. Of course for Security reasons, I do not want this name published. How can I get around this? Thank You.

    Thank You esmi – I previously looked at my profile and for some reason never saw the ‘publicly display’ box until I went back to it today. Duh! ?? Much Appreciate your response.
