Automatic Trackbacks

  • I am used to the autotrackback feature in MT? I haven’t seen that WP has this ability… if it does would someone mind explaining how I get that turned on. Thanks!

    In movable type when you post an entry with links in it, the program would automatically ping the trackback urls without the writer of the entry finding the trackback url themselves and having to enter it anywhere. I was wondering if there is something similar in WP

    WP has a automatic ping-back option, which might be good enough. Pingbacks show up with the comments in the original blog, just like trackbacks, so that’s great. Turning on autopingbacks is easy enough from the interface to create a new post.

    I’ve got a new installation of WordPress, and I’m very pleased with it after Greymatter. But the Trackback thingy appears not to work, or at least I’ve linked to other blog posts and don’t seem to be showing up on their trackback list. Presumably I’m missing some setting or other?

    WordPress does not (yet) support Trackback autodiscovery. For the time being, if you want to send a trackback, you have to manually fill in the trackback uri in the post screen.

    I did that, but the trackback still does not show up on the other (MT powered I think) blog. More than likely I’ve done something wrong in the set up, but I dunno what…

    Try trackbacking one of your own posts to check if the trackbacks are sent out properly, if you want to check that.

    Good tip — I’d never have thought of that! I tried it and it seemed to work – the trackback was dispalyed. But so far my trackbacks haven’t been picked up by any other site. My problem or theirs, you reckon?

    More theirs than yours. If trackbacks don’t get sent, then they dont get sent anywhere. Try to send the trackbacks to the correct addresses on other sites. So MT sites have weird looking trackback addresses (and so do sites generated using other tools)

    I am running Epsilon RC1 and I get no TBs or PBs !
    I tried it between my posts but nothing…
    What should I do ?

    You’ll have to wait until Trackback and Pingback is fixed in the RC version. They both worked in an earlier alpha version of 1.2, so I’m sure it’s something that will be looked into.

    I have the same problem as RichardHall. My trackbacks don’t show on other sites. I think it’s because they all they hate me. ??

    Hmmm… nope. Ping works fine but trackback to myself does nothing. What did I do wrong? Is there a setting to send out trackbacks other than filling in the trackback field?
