Automatic update now with extra panels on Dashboard

I recently upgraded from 3.6.1 to 3.8.1 by doing the upgrade straight from the Dashboard. Everything appeared to have run fine, no errors anywhere, and my site still works. Except, now when I look at my Dashboard, I have additional empty boxes being displayed. I have a screen capture saved here: https://www.thekirchners.net/dashboard.gif

If I close one of the panels, say the ‘Google Analytics’, I’ll end up with three empty boxes. If I close ‘At a Glance’ and ‘Activity’, leaving the analytics one where it is, in the second column, the other boxes disappear.

How can I get rid of them and/or stretch what I’m using across multiple columns? The analytics one used to stretch wider before the update, now it’s confined to a single column.
