I am trying to automatically update the version of wordpress on nestingneedles.com.au but it gets stuck “unpacking”:

    “Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-3.5.1-new-bundled.zip…

    Unpacking the update…”

Despite being left for up to an hour. From memory it only took a few minutes last time. I have fast cable internet and a new ultrabook so that should not be a limiting factor.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks,

    Anne

Another interesting point … the Scheduled Site Maintenance notice doesn’t appear when I go to the actual nestingneedles.com.au site, even during the update.

    Have you tried upgrading manually?

My host does not offer a batch file upload option, it would take me hours to copy everything across one file at a time.

You could try using FTP. It’s an almost essential skill for any site owner.

Although thankfully they do appear to offer an automatic upgrade for WordPress to 3.5 through Fantastico and it seems to have worked.

After that update the automatic update to 3.5.1 worked.

    Thanks for all advice.

    Thanks Esmi,

I do actually have a copy of FileZilla on my computer – I’d forgotten. I think I did use it once or twice in the past.

I’d strongly recommend that you try using it to (say) download some files from your site. Just for practice. Being able to use FTP is invaluable in many situations.

Im trying to get my site to update to WP3.51 from 3.4, but i get the following error after a long upload time from dashboard…

“Warning: copy(C:/HostingSpaces/nelsonsb/nelsons-barbershop.com/wwwroot/wp-admin/includes/update-core.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\HostingSpaces\nelsonsb\nelsons-barbershop.com\wwwroot\wp-admin\includes\class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 200

    Could not copy files.

    Installation failed”

I need to update this, in order to update my woocommerce.. any help will be appreciated. FYI I’m not a coder, have just been building sites using wordpress dashboard so assume I don’t know all the lingo. Thanks everyone. ac
