• Hi all,

I am using WordPress 4.6.1 with Easy Updates Manager 6.2.3, but automatic updates are not working.

The plugin Background Update Tester says everything is fine:

    – PASS: Your WordPress install can communicate with www.ads-software.com securely.
    – PASS: No version control systems were detected.
    – PASS: Your installation of WordPress doesn’t require FTP credentials to perform updates.
    – PASS: All of your WordPress files are writable.

I am triggering wp-cron.php via an manual Cron-Job from the OS, but WP Cron is also enabled.
The Plugin UpdraftPlus, which is also triggered by WP Cron is working: Backups are done automatically.

I activated logging within Easy Updates Manager, but there are no log entries. Also “Force updates” does not work.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

    Thanks in advance!
    André

I used the Plugin Background Update Tester as described in https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/236282/automatic-updates-are-not-working:

PASS: Your WordPress install can communicate with www.ads-software.com securely.
PASS: No version control systems were detected.
PASS: Your installation of WordPress doesn’t require FTP credentials to perform updates.
PASS: All of your WordPress files are writable.

This site is able to apply these updates automatically. Cool!

So as far as I understand there is no need for FTP credentials.

And I used the Plugin Send System Info. Here’s what it said:

    True, didn’t think of that.

And I used the Plugin Send System Info.

Everything look normal. Which makes me more confused…

The only thing that I can think of is that some setting or feature is being disabled somewhere in your server or website.

Do you have any other websites on this server? If so do the automatic updates work on them?

    (@ajanus)

I also think everthing is normal configured… and I am also confused! ??

The website runs on a new installed Debian Linux (VM).
It is the only website and the only thing at all running on that server (besides stuff normally running on a Debian system).
And I did not find anything about special settings for PHP etc. installed on an Debian system, that may cause WordPress not to update (only themes, plugins and translations).

    So, I am giving up now… ??
But thank you for your extensive help and feedback anyway!

Sorry we were not able to solve the problem. I can’t think of what else could possibly be causing this. The only idea I had left was I did find this article. https://shiftedbits.org/2012/01/29/enable-wordpress-automatic-updates-on-a-debian-server/

Thanks again! But I don’t think I need what’s described in the article. Because minor updates were performed (at least one time). So file access is basically working. It’s (only) plugin, theme and translations updates, which do not work.

I am at a complete loss of what could be causing this. I think we just have to give up on it. Sorry we were not able to solve the problem. Let me know if you ever end up figuring it out.

Just to complete this topic and not for solving this, I have to post here, that I have this problem with maybe half of the websites I take care for (all together maybe 15 to 20).

It is a lot of work to update this manually, therefore I was very thankful for your great plugin and I hope that someone (maybe even the author ;-)) find some solution.

    Thanks in advance

Maybe helpful for others facing the same problem:

I am using WP Updates Notifier to get at least informed, if there are updates available.

It is working for Plugin, Theme and major updates (but not for translations). Since a minor updates (which may contain urgend security fixes) are installed automatically, this is OK for me. I install the other updates manually after I got notified and update translations by the way.

As WP Updates Notifier is working, this shows that there is no problem with WordPress’ Cron mechanisms. The problem must reside somewhere else.

    Hi,

I don’t why people are searching so hard for that WP Automatic Update not working. We must ask the wrong question, I guess…
I’m responsible for several websites and everything was fine until now with updates, WordPress or any other plugin, meaning no major changes in any files,

      and suddenly…

, the WP Update is not working anymore, neither the plugins… !!! It has to be a issue with a recent WordPress Update…

    I have 4.7.3 installed everywhere.
Can anybody help me, I mean everyone…
