Automatic upgrade broke everything
-
Something bizarre just happened to my WP 2.7 blog.
I clicked to edit a post, and got the following message:
“Database Upgrade Required. Your WordPress database is out-of-date, and must be upgraded before you can continue. The upgrade process may take a while, so please be patient.”
I was given no option but to click “upgrade wordpress” so I did. What followed was a very long list of “WordPress database error: [MySQL server has gone away]” error messages, and my blog has completely vanished from the net.
I have not yet ftp’ed in to look at it, as I am not sure what to look for.
What is going on? It doesn’t make sense that it required me to upgrade without the option of first backing it up, or waiting until later. And how do I get it back?
If it matters: I installed 2.7 a few weeks back with no problems, and I do not have the automatic upgrade plugin installed.
