Automatic upgrade to 4.0.1 get stuck at the downloading step

Actually I have WP 3.8.5 which isn’t in the list above. Anyway here is the issue, I tried asking the host but he’s clueless.

Basically WP automatic upgrade gets stuck at the downloading step, i.e. the process just output the downloading wordpress https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/release/fr_FR/wordpress-4.0.1.zip and then it freeze. I have tried many things :

with plugins enabled :

– WP update get stuck right at the Downloading wordpress-blablah.zip step
– When trying to update the plugins, get stuck at the first plugin update attempt

with plugin disabled :

– I had 4 plugins to update, it succeded in updating the first 2 plugins, then got stuck
– I tried again, it succeded in updating one plugin then got stuck
– I tried again for the last plugin and it succeded
– WP automatic upgrade still get stuck at downloading

I’ve also tried adding this to htaccess :

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

And this :

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

But it didn’t change a thing. Error log on the server is empty.

phpinfo says : memory_limit 64M

could it be the memory limit ?

Any idea ?
