Automatically create groups and connections

I have the following scenario, we have courses, mostly offline courses, and every course have its own informative page (things, like costs, when, where, available seats, some images and so on); the course page is a custom post with some custom field. Every time a course is created, a group is created so that after the course we can link attendant to the course group and they can access a reserved area with docs/pdf/material of the course they followed. At the moment i’m creating the group with the following naming convention: course-name_start-date_end_date so that when a user login i can query the course post type with name and date couple (sometimes courses have the same name); do yo uhave any suggestions or alternatives way to link a group to a custom post type?
