• Hello

I am wanting to set up multisite to house about 70 sites that will have the same theme, categories, menu structure (although, this structure should be relative to each subdirectory – i.e. The mene on site1 will have links to site1 and the menu on site2 will link to site2).

Ultimately, the content will be the only thing that differs on each site. I will have a static base domain that simply shows links to each of the 70 sites. I will use subdirectories rather than subdomains.

    example.com (static page)
    example.com/site1
    example.com/site2
    etc

If I understand Multisite correctly I can build the taxonomy structure, a relative menu, plugins (and their settings) etc and then deploy this quickly across the 70 sites.

    So my questions:

    1. Have I understood the capabilities of Multisite corectly?

    2. If so, is there a way to batch create the 70 sites from a list, rather than adding individual pages one at a time?

    Many thanks

    Yes.

    1. You can create one site with all the pages, etc.
    2. Export that content as an xml(navigate to ‘Tools’ -> ‘Export’)
    3. Create your new site as a subdirectory
    4. Import that content (navigate to ‘Tools’ -> ‘Import’)
    • It may ask you may have to install ‘WordPress Importer’ plugin. Install it. upload the xml file you had saved earlier.
    • Repeat process for each new site

Therre is a plugin being built to clone sites like that, but I don’t believe it’s done yet.

    @ipstenu

I could really use that plugin ?? or inheritance.

    Hi,
I tried that export-import method. It exported alright and I checked that all categories and sun-categories were exported. But the import left out most of the sub-categories.

Is there something I might be doing wrong. I have tried it three timws with the same result each time. It imports the categories *and sub-categories) in alphabetical order up to letter D, then gives a message that “It’s All Done”.

    Best wishes
