    Hello,

After the latest update, the feature “Automatically Smush images on Upload” does not work anymore. I will have to manually click smush for all images that I’ve uploaded. Is there a fix for this?

    Thanks.

EDIT: My apologies, it did Smush those images – but the buttion “SMUSH NOW” is still displayed. I had to refresh the page to get the information updated.

  • “SMUSH NOW” is still displayed because it’s not being “SMUSHED” yet. Go to WP SMUSH and bulk smush it For some reasons, the auto smush on upload can’t be enabled.

For my case, it is actually smushed. Just that the “SMUSH NOW” button still appears even though it has already been smushed.

    Hey @yeguoji,

That’s bit strange, How did you came to know it’s smushed? By the image file size or some other stats?

    Cheers

    By just refreshing lol.
It appears as not smushed when I uploaded it, but once I refreshed, I presume the information got updated and it showed as smushed.

@yeguoji, are you on WP Engine? Because plugins stores a transient, and a message is displayed that “Smushing in progress..” while the process runs in the background. But WP Engine might be having issue with transients and as a result message isn’t displayed.

@umeshsingla that might be the issue. Previously before the update, the “smushing in progress” was displayed without issues and auto-updates itself to display the amount of space saved when it’s done.
Ever since the latest super-speed smushing was introduced, it doesn’t automagically update itself.

    @yeguoji,

It was different in earlier version, the transients for the progress are introduced in this version only.

Can you please confirm your hosting provider?

Well actually I’m the one who controls the entire site’s updates ??

I always update plugins on the same day that it was released, and this issue only happened on the latest update. Hope that clears out some confusion.

That’s totally alright, what I meant to know is the Host Provider you are using to host the website.

Because normally on every other hosts, you’d see the message “Smushing in progress..” (Screenshot: https://monosnap.com/file/w8xCPIGin0qPGFM6mOzMEXXouHb5XR ) while image is being smushed in the background.

And that’s displayed with the help of transients. So if you’re seeing the Smush Button and not the message, then there is some issue with the transients which I need to debug, and hence I need to know the host provider in order to replicate the issue and fix it.

    Cheers

Ah about that. It appears on the “media” menu.
I’m using AWS now, if that answers your question.

Are you using any kind of persistent object caching plugin?

    Thread Starter yeguoji

    (@yeguoji)

Nope. Caches are handled by my CDN, with the admin panel excluded of course.

This same thing is happening to me, and I am not on WP-Engine. I upload the images, and then in post-editing screen it shows the orange button which says “smush now.”

Although … I don’t actually know if the images are getting smushed on upload or not. How do I check that?

    Thread Starter yeguoji

    (@yeguoji)

Not too sure what you mean by “not on WP-Engine”, but for me I just check the Media section in WordPress. Hope that helps @jeremyers1

@jeremyers1, You can check that in Media Library, there are detailed stats for each image.

@yeguoji, Can you possibly contact us via: https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact.

Select “I’ve a different question” from dropdown and mention “Attn. Umesh Kumar” as subject.

Post the thread link in message area, and send it over.

I’ll take it forward from there.

    Cheers
