Autoptimize causing images not to show and slowing my website

    Hi there,
    I installed the Autoptimize plugin to help improve the speed of my website. However, it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick. Actually, I face significant issues with load time and often the feature image of my articles does not show because it cannot find the link.

    I also get many error messages from WordPress.

    When I took a look, it seemed to be that shortpixel and redirects are the main culprit for slowness. And based on my google search, it seems that Autoptimize is creating the shortpixel files and redirects thus slowing things down.

    Could you please let me know how I can fix things so my site loads quickly (rather than more slowly) using your plugin?

    My blog is a personal site and not-for-profit. I am not a developer. I am grateful for your assistance.

    if you have “image optimization” on but the response from shortpixel redirects back to your own site (which indeed would slow things down) after the first couple of requests then you have surpassed the free optimization threshold I’m afraid. you could either disable “image optimization” or you could sign up on shortpixel and associate your domain to your account to having the images optimized.

    Thank you so much for the quickl reply. Yes, I have image optimization on and yes, I also surpassed the free optimzation threshold according to the WP notification I received.

    What is the best thing to do? I want to make my site faster at a reasonable price and with one-off cost/setup.
    – If I buy more credits, will that fix things or will it still be slow? You said that shortpixel redirecting back to my own site would indeed slow things down.
    – if I signup to shortpixel and associate my domain, is that what most personal bloggers would do?

    well, if you buy credits & associate the domain then the redirects won’t happen any more and it’s those redirects that slow things down.

    the alternative is not using “image optimization” in AO, in which case you’d have to optimize elsewhere and the images would not be served from the Shortpixel CDN any more.

    All depends on how much your images can be improved upon really, but do take into account that the shortpixel credits will expire at some point to this is not a one-off cost (even if a low one).
