Avada Layout Builder not working/unstable

Hi, I have an Avada themed site in French. I copied the entire site to a development site and installed Polylang with French as the default langue and English as the second. I have problems with the Avada Layout Builder. Initially I opened the layout builder and switched to French. All ok. I went to English and all the layouts were there but empty (“Select…” evertwhere). So, I copied across Global header and Global Footer from the French to the English Global layout. Suddenly everything was empty except bizarrely global footer. A read the two warnings at https://theme-fusion.com/documentation/avada/how-to/how-to-set-different-global-options-with-polylang/ . I applied the option ‘The Language Is Set From The Code In The URL’. I also set my Permalinks to default (Plain now) . Upon reading: 
<em>“IMPORTANT NOTE: By default, make sure you have Avada Global Options set for English language because when you switch languages in wp-admin for the first time, they copy the global options from English language options.”</em>, I assumed that as French is my default this was the problem. So, I copied all the settings from the French options page of the original site to the English options page of the French site. I then started selecting them in the French Layouts page. And BANG everything was reset. The French page came back to its original setting that I thought were lost and the English Layouts were all deleted – everything back to “Select…”. 
Ideas anyone?
