Hi, my site is having a few conflicts with Smush. I had lazy loading enabled and I couldn’t see any of my Avada portfolio images or the Avada slider on the front page. This is even when I disabled the native Avada lazy loading.

I’ve had to disable Smush lazy loading. However I enabled Avada lazy loading and this morning looked at my site and my portfolio images are not showing again. I’m also not sure if this is a Hummingbird issue or a Smush issue (I don’t want to clear the caches too much because Cloudflare keeps timing me out when I do this in addition to running page insights and GTmetrix etc.)

    Not sure where to start!
    Many thanks

    Hi @montybuns,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

I checked a couple of pages on the mentioned site but was unable to notice any issues with the loading of images. I suspect if a browser cache is causing the issue at your end, can you please check this from a private window and see if you could still replicate the issue?

If the issue still persists, can you please let us know where we can find this exactly and if possible include a full-page screenshot of the page where you have noticed the issue?

    Best Regards,

Thank you Nebu, I tested a few settings and realised it’s the Hummingbird plugin, some of the settings were conflicting with Avada and Smush. I disabled this and got W3 Total Cache, then just used the basic settings and it’s running fast with no conflicts.

    Many thanks

    Hi @montybuns,

I am sorry to know that Hummingbird was causing the issue.

Hummingbird is one of our plugins and it should work well with Smush. If you wouldn’t mind can you please let us know the settings that you found to conflict with Avada and Smush so that we can debug the issue?

I would also like to bring to your notice that Hummingbird and W3 Total Cache do have common features which could result in conflict issues. Can you please activate Hummingbird alone (ie., with W3 Total Cache still deactivated) and check if you still notice the issue?

Please let us know how that goes.

    Kind Regards,
    Nebu John

Hi Nebu, I’m not sure of the settings in Hummingbird that I used, however I remember trying to tweak it as much as I could to suit my particular site.

I remember that when I set everything in Hummingbird, then plugged in Smush, it was ok, but then when I enabled Lazy Load in Smush my site’s images were not loading. I had to resolve this quickly in case of customers browsing my site so I disabled Lazy Load in Smush as I realised it may conflict with Avada’s native Lazy Load.

Once I did this the images still were not showing so I kept on as normal, clearing caches in WordPress, Cloudflare and browser and waiting an hour. However it was still the same so I disabled Hummingbird and this made the images re-appear. Please note I didn’t have W3 Total Cache at this point, I installed it later.

As I don’t have development skills I wasn’t sure what to do or how to tweak it further so I’ve just had to leave it be for the moment with the plugins/settings that it has got now.

    Many thanks,

    Hi @montybuns,

Enabling same functionality in two places can cause issues, like having Lazy Load running within a plugin and theme at the same time, so this is probably why your images didn’t show up.

Since the images started appearing after disabling Smush Lazy Load and disabling Hummingbird it suggests that there was still some caching left which didn’t stop loading until you disabled HB.
Did you made sure that HB caches were cleared both in Page Caching and Asset Optimization panels?

    Cheers,
    Predrag

Hi Predrag, Thanks for your message, yes, I tested it again the next day, and cleared all the caches including Cloudflare, then left it until morning to check again to make sure.

However the images were still not there. I will look into hiring a developer to sort this for me to sort this issue out.

    Many thanks

    Hi @montybuns

    Thank you for the update.

Could you send the link directly to the page where you see the issue?

I checked some pages but couldn’t find any missing images.

Smush has the option to enable the Native Lazy Load, this can prevent some problems, in case you would like to give that a try please, disable the Avada Lazy Load and enable the Native Lazy Load in Smush > Lazy Load.

As Predrag said, you don’t need to use both Lazy Load, as long any of the options works you can help it.

Hi Patrick, thanks for your message,
When I use the Smush Lazy Load and disable Avada’s Lazy Load (and Hummingbird is enabled) the images disappear.

The reason why you couldn’t see any missing images is because I disabled Hummingbird and set Avada to Lazy Load and it’s working again. I had to do this quickly as there may be potential customers browsing my site and I don’t have enough dev skills to find out what is glitching inbetween the 3 things (Avada, Hummingbird, Smush).

It seems to be working now so I will leave those settings as they are but thank your guys for all your help.

    Hi @montybuns,

I tried to replicate the issue on a test site with a similar environment (with Avada, Hummingbird, and Smush active) but was unable to notice any issues with Smush Lazyloading.

Can you please let us know if you manage to isolate the cause of the issue so that we can take a closer look at this?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Kind Regards,
