• I have people who place posts for my website and they have been designated as “Authors” in the users menu. When I post as admin, I have an option to insert my excerpt as well as a featured image. However, the authors don’t seem to have access to these two options and I’m trying to figure out why. I have a plugin installed that allows me to switch users and when I switch to their profile I can clearly see that the excerpt and featured image options are not visible to them.

What I’d like to know is (1) should those options be visible to “Authors” (2) if so, is there an option I can change in the menu that will make those two options available to them (3) if those two options are not available to authors then what user role would provide that to them.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Tim

    Thanks for your reply.

When I select “Capabilities” I see that feature is already enabled for the user.

When I “switch roles” with him I can go to his post and then edit. When I scroll down neither the excerpt nor feature image option is visible. Could it possibly be something in that edit menu that is not enabled?

I just had a look in a wordpress installation without any plugins. A normal editor sees both feature image and excerpt.

So there can be only 2 reasons for a different behavior:
The “switch plugin” you are using is doing something wrong. My advice would be: create a normal editor with your own credentials and log in with them. See if it is different then. If so, the misbehavior is due to the “switch plugin”.
Or (if the first reason is not true) you have another plugin or theme in use, which affects the permissions here. To exclude this you can deactivate all plugins and activate a standard theme.

Yes I suspected it might be an issue with the plugin too but wanted to check here first. I’ll have the developers check it out and see if they can fix it. I was hoping it might be something simple that I could do but it sounds like it’s above my paygrade.

    Thanks again
