Avatar upload at registration

  • I’m building a site for the film-department at my art-college and need an avatar-upload at the registration, cause it must be feared only half of the students will upload an avatar after succesfully logged in.

    I’ve installed Theme My Login and tried to combine it with User Photo, Simple Local Avatars and User Avatar with no Luck.
    Cimy User Extra Fields has an avatar-upload at registration, but the avatars created by Cimy User Extra Fields are horrible, even if this plugin is really useful in other parts.

    I don’t need some detailed explanation, but maybe some direction, since I can code a bit. Maybe someone got some tips how I can combine Theme My Login with some external Avatar-Upload for registration or something completely else.

    Since all avatar-plugins need some user-id to get to work, would it be a good idea to let the user upload an image to a special folder and then use the user_register hook and the new created ID to start, let’s say “Simple Local Avatars”?
