Avatars broken image in discussion and users

all avatars show a broken image … but not for admin user that has a local avatar

Do all users have a local avatar? Or just the admin?

And when you say they have a broken image, are you getting any errors if you open your browser console?

Only admin has a local avatar. Other’s users haven’t assigned one yet.

After opening the console and re-loading the page it shows:

I have no idea what is blocking it. We have a plugin that blocks API REST and pingbacks. Could it be the problem?

I’ve found it is BitDefender Anti-tracker plugin is blocking it. Is there a way to use only local images and set a default local image for all new users who haven’t uploaded one instead of using gravatar?

Is there a way to use only local images

There is a setting for this under Settings > Discussion. Scroll down the page to the avatars section and you can turn on the Local Avatars Only setting.

Note though that for users without an avatar set, it will still use whatever default setting you have in place, which those all come from Gravatar (besides the Blank setting).

There isn’t a setting for this right now, though that is good feedback for something we could look to add. Right now your best bet if you never want to use Gravatar is to turn on the Local Avatars Only setting as described above and change your Default Avatar setting to be Blank. Note though that this means the user avatar will literally just be a blank square for anyone that doesn’t set a custom avatar. But in your case, that may be better than broken image links (though probably worth seeing if BitDefender can allow Gravatar URLs)
