• I was using Avatars in version 2.7. I can’t remember if it was supported natively or whether I installed a pluggin to set them up. However, I just updated to 2.8 and now all the avatars are just that same snnonymous images.

I tried to find the field in my profile, where I can upload an avatar, but I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve not changed my theme at all. I’m using Writer’s Quill 1.0.2 for my theme.

I can’t see any pluggin installed (or disabled), which might have been providing this feature before, so I’m wondering what happened!

    Any ideas?

    Peter

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems.

thanks buddy. disabled all pluggins earlier to no avail. Will try the theme later (although it hasn’t changed and is the same theme I was using with 2.7.1

I’ve tried disabling all pluggins and changing the theme but nothing will make the avatars reappear. Only the default image is shown (the silhouette person).

It’s odd that they were working before the upgrade and I didn’t add any pluggins or change the theme at that time.

I can’t remember where you upload a custom avatar, is it on the profile page? If so, the option to upload a custom avatar is not shown now.

Is the “Show avatars” button selected on your Settings->Discussion page?

I believe that as of WP2.5, all the avatar support is handled thru gravatar.com (unless you install some sort of plugin).

ah ok. I checked the “Show avatars’ button and it’s selected. I guess I need to checkout some avatar plugins then.

    Thanks, pete
