Avatars vs User Photo

First of all thank you very much for your plugin, very useful for university society.

I have a little problem with user photo plugin (is does not work, because of our university web server security measures), so is it possible to change the code in functins to show not user photos, but user avatars, which are already assigned to their user profiles.
