Being Google’s official plugin, I was surprised to see that it—apparently—doesn’t insert the Optimize in the right place in order to prevent content flicker.

Is there any way to correct this? Or do I have to use the anti-flicker snippet?

Thanks for reaching out. Site Kit placed the Optimize snippet between the head tags on a WordPress install, as suggested following the Optimize best practices guide. If you’re finding it places elsewhere on your site I’d be happy to check if you want to share your URL. It’s possible there my be third party plugins altering the placement.

Are you encountering any flickering when using Optimize? If there are also plugins that output code as high as possible between your <head> tags you can attempt to use this snippet although I would perform some testing first. Feel free to share your site URL and I can check your current setup.

The URL is https://mypodcastreviews.com/. The test version has 3 paragraphs before the button, the original version has 2.

When I visit the page in an incognito window and get the test version, the original shows first and then it switches to the test.

@djosephdesign Thanks for the update. In that case you may need to insert the Anti flicker snippet. While Site Kit does place the Optimize snippet as suggested at the top of your <head> tags after inspecting your site I can see various optimizations performed, with CSS and other content above your Optimize snippet.

Let me know if you’re having trouble inserting the anti flicker snippet manually after following this guide.

Note that we’ve also created a GitHub issue in relation to a configuration option. If approved this will allow for Site Kit to insert the anti flicker snippet if users so wich to do. You’ll find more on this below:

@djosephdesign Hi there! We’ve just released v1.39.0, which includes a new configuration option in Site Kit for adding the anti-flicker snippet.

I’ll mark this topic as resolved, but if you have any questions or issues, feel free to open a new support topic and we’d be happy to assist. Thank you!
