• This cost me a few hours of messing around

If anyone has the same issue, I narrowed it down to a “conflict” with WP Super Cachce –

I decided to block all countries except UK and USA (for testing) – backend and frontend.

Google real time still showed quite a few Russians on the frontend. Tested using a French IP – and it passed.

To my horror it managed to produce a 403 Forbidden HTTP code on my Mobile (wifi UK IP)
Testing – found it was only happening on non www.

This did not occur on ios / desktop

Changed settings: countries, pages etc- no good

Deactivated the plugin – no success, deleted; no joy!

Cleared cahce did the usual testing

Nothing on Google and Support forums.

Wanted to revert to a backupbuddy backup – failed!

(added a workaround in .htaccess to rewrite to www and came back to it)

Troubleshooting: htaccess no change, by plugin, according to GIT.
    Changed theme ; no difference
Started deactivating plugins: found that ip2location does not play nicely with WP Super Cache. (in my case) – had a play around with the settings deleted all cache and after a few attempts – fixed.

Sorry if details are vague – sorry for the negative review- found nothing on support forums.

  • Hi James,

What version of wordpress are you using it? I have 4.4 installed and work just fine for backend access.

Hi evis, it was the frontend of the website – where I was blocked!

I have a feeling this is due to a combination of two plugins I was using on that application.

Apologies for the “harsh” review, this was a scary place to be and cost a couple of hours getting out of trouble.

    All the best,

    James
