    Hello All,
We are using version.1.9.1 paypal payments plugin by woo with advanced credit cards live. Very recently when a customer makes a CC payment (does not leave our checkout page)we are getting the following as the last entries in the order notes:

    CVV2 Match: Y
08.07.2022 at 10:12 pm Delete note

    Address Verification Result
    AVS: Y
    Address Match: N
    Postal Match: N`

Note: The transactions are still getting approved with the AVS response above from as best as I can tell.

When referring to PayPal’s AVS code definitions found here https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/vhelp/servicemanagement_help/avs_response.htm the above responses don’t make sense. To recreate I placed an order with one of my cards and the correct billing address and was also given AVS: Y Address Match: N Postal Match: N yet the transaction was approved. I could not find in the paypal backend where/how to adjust the AVS settings. In the plugin the only setting even remotely close is the 3D Secure which is set to On When Required.

We have also had a big increase in the number of failed orders very recently with the order notes saying the dreaded “Could not process order. Order status changed from Pending payment to Failed.” with no type of detail at all in the logs. When this exact message appears in the notes we also get 2 identical woo commerce admin order failed emails – IPN is turned off within the paypal business account as well. Any thoughts / comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi @verticalmail,

PayPal Payments retrieves the 3D Secure and card payment information printed in the order notes from the PayPal order. There are no settings in the plugin to modify this behavior whatsoever. As you mentioned, you can only change the 3D Secure contingency.
For questions regarding specific payments, please reach out to the PayPal merchant support.

Could not process order. is a fairly generic error that doesn’t say much other than something went wrong, likely on the WooCommerce or plugin side and not on PayPal’s end. Can you reproduce this behavior on your site?
If yes, does it persist with all plugins except for WooCommerce and PayPal Payments disabled?
IPN is not relevant for PayPal Payments and can be turned off.
    Thanks!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
