As a professional WP developer, I’ve tried a lot of different caching features and setups on dozens of sites, and this is the best out-of-the-box resource I’ve used to date. Not only is it the best free option, but it’s also better than some of the premium options we’ve tried.
We installed Hummingbird for the first time on a new build for a client that had no caching feature, and the load time went from close to 10 seconds (a horribly-built site on a poor hosting plan) to about 2 seconds. And the only different was Hummingbird. It was such a dramatic improvement that we immediately installed it on a number of the other sites we manage. One of these days we’ll get around to running some actual tests to get some of the details, but for now, Hummingbird definitely passes the eyeball test. We definitely plan to keep using it going forward.
In 5 years of developing WordPress websites, I simply have not seen anything like Hummingbird. If you’re looking for a caching feature, use it. If it’s not making some kind of improvement for you, you’re almost certainly doing something wrong.
