I know it is a free plugin but more than a week passed and not even a soul replied to a plugin that is download more than a half a million times.

It’s not that I’m asking something trivial or comprehensive either. One of the main functions of the plugin, backing to AWS S3 is not working. Surely someone else has either experienced that or made it work. You will either help the plugin auther to correct a bug or help a fellow forum meber to correct his setting.

And by doing either you will help our community.

    Thank you.

You might want to read the sticky post op top..

I know the sticky states that for resource reasons they’ll probably usually look at this FREE forum on Wednesdays, but based on the last activity and response, that might have changed to Mondays.

Complaining that “no one is helping you” will likely have the opposite effect.
Especially since most people using the free version of the plugin might not be using AWS S3 (not free) as a backup destination. ??

I was not complaining but showing my surprise that within the two weeks period (which had two Monday and Wednesdays in it BTW) nobody has replied.

Maybe you are right and noone use S3. In which case may I ask if anyone has experience with the MS Azure with this plugin?

Three weeks and not a single reply from the author? Not even, buy the pro as that function only works on Pro…

I solved it. It was caused by the missmatch of region. BackWPup does not have S3 London region that I was using. I was choosing EU (Ireland) as the nearest. I moved the S3 bucket to US General and chose accordingly, backup worked.

Moral of the story: BackWPup author must update the AWS regions. There are a few more missing on the plugin menu.

FYI, the author has recently updated the plugin but the S3 region issue has not been corrected.

When this post was made the list of AWS S3 regions is as below.

US East (N. Virginia) [was US Standard Region]
    US East (Ohio)
    US West (N. California)
    US West (Oregon)
    Canada (Central)
    Asia Pacific (Mumbai)
    Asia Pacific (Seoul)
    Asia Pacific (Singapore)
    Asia Pacific (Sydney)
    Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
    EU (Frankfurt)
    EU (Ireland)
    EU (London)
    South America (Sao Paolo)

On the Version 3.3.6 of BackWPup the following S3 regions are still missing.

    US East (Ohio)
    Canada (Central)
    EU (London)

However there is a region on the plugin that according to Amazon, doesn’t exist!

    China (Beijing)

The plugin also still lists the US Standard Region which has been renamed by Amazon a while ago to US East (N. Virginia)

I think it is time for the plugin author to pay attention to this.

    Respectfully.

    @sarumbear
thanks a lot for reporting. I will open an issue for our developers to update the regions. But can’t tell you at this moment, when this will be fixed.

    Best regards

Thank you so much for posting this. I was able to resolve the same issue by creating a new bucket in the US General region and my backup worked! I don’t know how I would have figured this out without this thread. ??
