Azure: WordPress or WordPress on Linux?

  • Hi everyone.

    In the Web + Mobile templates on Azure Marketplace, I see two WordPress options. WordPress, and WordPress on Linux.

    Any differences I should consider between the two? Or is the VM route better?

    My intent is to setup Woocommerce for the listing of 2 niche products (for now) – any recommendations observations for the setup/settings/DB on Azure? I believe the basic DB (with 1GB space) would suffice – am I wrong?

    WordPress runs best on Linux, whether from Azure, Digital Ocean, Linode, or any of the other cloud companies.

    WordPress will run on Windows, too.

    Either should work fine, but like @sterndata said, you should probably used Linux as it’s more reliable with running things like WordPress due to the kind of technologies being used (PHP etc).
