Now that you’re the official b2, any chance you’ll be using some of the b2 styling for the admin side?
I like the new feature ideas, but the admin page style is a big step backward.

Chris, that is the idea – if people would contribute some stylesheets we’d have something to get started with.

The admin page can be completely modded by style sheets very easily. Most of the changes are made only to color and fonts so feel free to revert it. I made mine more grey and less white and I still love the greyscale minimalist design…and Georgia rocks! (the font, not the state mind you!)

I see that most everyone in this forum would like to use WordPress with the looks of b2: https://www.ads-software.com/support/5/702

Err, I did not say everyone in this forum, I said “most everyone in this forum”.

    @the anonymous poster:
Not that there is any weight in my words, but: personally I like the look and feel of WordPress. That’s the reason why I didn’t change much at the style of the default installation once I started blogging with WordPress.
You can’t meet everyone’s taste. If the developers would change WordPress to look like b2, be sure there’d be a lot of people popping up in this forum complaining about the new look.
Therefor I second what allusion says: if this look and feel thing is so important for you, you should go ahead and contribute a patch/new style sheet. If you don’t find the time, stick with another solution (possibly another program) or wait until someone else made the necessary steps. That’s the advantage of open source: you are free to contribute things you would like to see in a product. But this also includes that you can’t demand anything… most open source projects are made during spare time. I guess this is also the case with WordPress, although I’m not sure about it.
Last but not least: posting messages anonymously to a forum in they way you did (speakting for “almost everyone in this forum” just because you are not happy with the answers you received) isn’t very helpful. Or let’s say: your chances are better this way to be regarded as a moron.
Don’t get me wrong: it’s not that I want to say you are a moron (possibly this impression could come up, but please keep in mind that I’m by far no native english speaker). What I want to say is that your contributions (even if they are just in the form of forum postings containing suggestions on how the developers could improve their products) would possibly be regarded more useful if you decided to register at the forum and give yourself a “face”.
    Well, just my 0.02$

Also, where I ‘point’ to a thread I started…I am not trying to ‘convince’ anyone of anything, I am mearly doing the Admins job as I now see that I should never have started another thread but included it in this one.
Why the attitude regarding this, you can see ‘most’ users would like the old layout back so why not get off your arse(s) and make one, after all it is your product is it not?
When I buy a car and ask for better wheels the garage do not make me fit them so why should you…
It would be nice if YOU (as a company) did as your customers wanted, I rest my case.

My point was not that we’re not willing to add a feature if there is significant demand, but rather that I don’t think this is an issue that most people feel is important. That is, most people don’t care or actually feel the opposite of the opinion you’re expressing. As time is a very limited resource as a developer I have to choose where to devote my time and ultimately this comes down to my personal judgement but that is heavily influenced by what features I think will benefit WordPress users as a whole. So, unless this is identified as a major issue, I’m not going to devote my time to bringing back the old b2 look.
The beauty of open development and open source code is that you have the freedom to create such a style yourself if you are so inclined, or hire someone to do it, or modify the source in whatever way you see fit. This is a privilege anda right, exercise it.
What you do not have is the right to make demands of any of the developer’s time. When I said “You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” I meant that in the context of a free, open-source project, demands are almost certainly ignored and polite requests are almost always considered.

So, you don’t think this is an issue that most people feel is important…
    wish – old b2 design – https://www.ads-software.com/support/5/241
One thing that is stoping me switching – https://www.ads-software.com/support/5/393
    WordPress Design – https://www.ads-software.com/support/5/161
    b2 & WP Admin Sections… – https://www.ads-software.com/support/5/702
    b2 style? – https://www.ads-software.com/support/5/94
And just to clear things up, I was not demanding anything, more enquiring as to why the design was so dull and would it at all be changed back to how b2 was.
I understand the time constraints you have as do I, but as I and a lot of other people have stated that the b2 design was simply better.
Personally I can not really see any ‘read’ changes that could not have been made using mods for b2.
For instance the link manager, this is a mod for b2 is it not and can be freely installed. The only other things I see are how it is a little slower and drab looking.
If it were not for the security fixes everyone is piping on about I would not be bothered and simply stick with b2.
Please do not feel like I and demanding anything other than your ear, all I (and others) ask is that you look into adding the old design back or at least let use (as the users) choose from a drop down box or something.
    Regards.

P.S. Thank you for removing my post to Mike (otaku42) the one who likes to call me a moron….
sorry about that but I dislike being called a moron by someone that does not even know me.

@anonymous: read my post again (read it from beginning to the end, all the text). I mentioned something there about calling you a moron.
    Bye, Mike

Ok, before things heat up too much, here is what I’m willing to offer: I’ll take a look at what b2 looks alike, especially in administration mode. For the “normal userinterface” there is already a customized css available, look here for more information. So it should be all about the admin interface. I’ll give it a try and experiment with a customized css. If I succeed I’ll happily offer the result to the community. But don’t nail me on something like a timeline, I’m doing this during my spare time which has been rather rare during the last days.
Note: I’m not used to b2 at all, so if there are some things I should spend special care about, please let me know in time.
    Bye, Mike

ok, thank you for for explaining what you mean Mike.
I too have started work on a new CSS for the admin panel and will let you know when I have something to offer.
    Regards.

What you mean to say is that most everyone that has voiced an opinion. There is at least one (and I speculate more) that have not seen b2 so we don’t care. We also use our own stylesheet so we really don’t care.
I would rather the very generous developers of this product spend time fixing the know bugs and functional enhancements rather than prettying up the admin panel. But that is the opinion of the one of the members of the so-called minority.
PS – Thank you to all the people who contribute to this project. Hopefully one day my schedule will free up so I can lend a hand.

I’m not the one who started this discussion, and will register later, but I am just about to upgrade if you like to WordPress and will create the b2 admin interface theme and release it for all.

This thread is quite a job. An anonymous person whining about a CSS that can be changed with a few simple modifications and fighting with the developers (who are doing HIM/HER a favor by providing this wonderful tool) is just too much. , I have a lot of respect for coders who spend their time working on free/GPL projects and I would be thankful rather than being vicious! Please be respectful of people providing you with a service. As for the admin interface, I consider it adequate. If you consider the admin interface too drab or dull, please modify the CSS yourself and if incapable, ask one of the forum moderators or other good samaritans to help you with one. The developers and their team should be responsible for judging the importance/usefulness of any addition, not a whiny no-name.
