diedenker,
Thanks for the feedback.
1st: Stars in organic search are a normal and fully supported feature of the free version of the plugin. Rich Reviews, however, by itself is not a Google partner and hence not a source of “validated” reviews in Google’s eyes. For this reason regardless of the accuracy of the rich markup output by the plugin, Rich Reviews can’t guarantee that Google will accept the reviews you have chosen to display as valid and trusted, and hence display them in SERPs. The extension built is simply an integration with a third-party service, a free utility to aid those who wish to use the paid service. The utility integration built into Rich Reviews in it’s own nature is not a paid utility.
2nd: The option, which, as you have identified, is an opt-out rather than an opt-in, is simply for the display of the extension’s tab in the user menu. This extension would by other means be fairly difficult to make users aware to the existence of. Seeing as the option only triggers display of information, and only upon electing to configure the extension with the information from a Shopper Approved account does the extension activate, I saw this as a minimally invasive way to bring added functionality to Rich Reviews. Further, this is not a paid version of the plugin, but merely added functionality that offers integrated support for a service, which itself is a paid service. In addition, the pop-up message is admittedly an advertisement in nature, however it is set up as dismissible on a rotating cycle, so upon dismissing the ad you should not be presented the add again for two weeks (if this is not the case, this is a bug and please report), and that is in the case you don’t simply opt-out in the options tab. And yes, the extension certainly is a useful bit of functionality, Shopper Approved is a service that we use for our own website to aid SEO and SERP rankings. It is not our service, but simply one that we have found useful and thought it would be beneficial to bring support for ease of integration to WordPress.
I appreciate the feedback on the recent updates, it’s always helpful to know how people are responding, good or bad, to the changes we are making.
Let me know if you have any further concerns,
Thanks,
Charlie Maxwell
