I too was using the latest version of 2.3 and my blog suddenly stopped working, although the backend would work. I could do backups, disable plugins, but I couldn’t change themes or make a post without it going to the 404 page. Anyone visiting a page of my blog gets a 500 server error. I made no changes (although I did post a scheduled entry and had a simple comment a few minutes before it stopped responding).

I since upgraded WP to 2.5.1 and did the DB upgrade it required, and the problems are exactly the same. I’ve tried disabling most of the plugins, even the spam filter, to no effect. I’ve tried changing themes, and the 404 pages change to the other theme, but the site still gives a 500 error if someone goes to a page that is there.

I emptied the Akismet spam filter, and even unpublished the latest posts, putting them to drafts. I set the last comment to moderated. No effect on fixing the 500 error.

    Any suggestions, please?

    “Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. ”

Have you contacted your webhost about this?

Not yet, although another two WP blogs on the same host/account are still working right now.

“removing the </html> at the end of the footer fixed the problem” My friend found that odd solution. No clue why it suddenly broke.
