• Hello…

I am running MaxButtons on WP 4.3 with Genesis Framework and the Metro Pro theme.

After installing the latest update, the background image on my site either disappeared or was replaced by solid white. Deactivating the plugin brings the image back, but the buttons obviously die. I have deleted and re-installed the plugin, but that has not fixed the problem. I have also tried replacing the background image to no avail.

My site is at https://crunchdaddy.com – MaxButtons is deactivated at the moment, as I must have the background image in place. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as we love using this plugin! Thank you!

    Hi,

Did you manage to fix this problem since I see a Maxbuttons on your site and the background as well?

It seems like some things were edited manually as well, it doens’t look like the usual output of a maxbutton. ( Are you running the latest version? ) .

As a temporary fix we reverted to the previous version. Thus, MaxButtons is running and we have our background image back for now.

We’re using the shortcode from the previous version. We’re fine for now, but we can’t uopdate the plugin until this issue is resolved. I look forward to coninueusing the plugin, as it’s great.

    Thank you!

(We temporarily had another button in place while MaxButtons was deactivated, which may be what you saw.)

    Hi,

To fix this issue I’ll have to inspect it. Are you able to put a test page somewhere outside of your installation, or somehow that it doesn’t affect your site?

I’m thinking this might be a conflict with the theme or something like that, but without information I’m out in the dark.

Unfortunately, I am not able to provide a test page or sandbox for troubleshooting this.

For now, I’ll just stay with the previous version, as it works fine. I’ll be happy to try future versions to see if the issue resolves itself somehow.

    Thanks again.

I have had the same problem on two of my sites with the new upgrade. On one site, I was using the Divi theme from Elegant Themes. On the other site, I was using the Headway Themes framework.

In both cases, the entire page blanked out when it included any buttons from MaxButtons. On my site with the Divi theme, the button was on every page so my entire site blanked out. I ended up just putting a static button and removing MaxButtons

On the other site, I figured out that the new MaxButtons upgrade was causing me the problem, so I just left it at the current version hoping this will be fixed.

Completely blanking out sounds more like a ‘crash’ to me, than a layout problem.

What versions are we talking about here? Like last week this happened or it’s longer ago? I’m asking because 3.14 fixes an issue which caused the plugin to crash on some servers. Maybe you can try to upgrade to the latest version.

If something crashes please always report here instead of just uninstalling so we can address and fix the problem ??

    Hi Bas,

When running 3.12.1, the buttons worked fine. When I upgraded to 3.14 on the site, if there was a button anywhere on that page, the content for the page didn’t show. The header and footer of the page showed. I had to uninstall it on that site (www.heritageornaments.net) because my site would not work. When I deactivated MaxButtons ver 3.14, the site displayed fine (the button area just showed the shortcode). So I just put a static button on the site for now so the site would work for my client.

Same thing happened on this page … https://medwaysoccer.com/about/registration/. When I upgraded to 3.14, the page completely disappeared, however, any other pages that didn’t have a button still displayed fine. I’m currently just leaving this site with MaxButtons 3.12.1 and not upgrading the plugin until I can see if there is a fix.

Let me know if I can provide more details.

The needed details here would be the exact error message ?? Are you sure you tried 3.14 and not 3.13? 3.14 was released yesterday.

Oh, interesting. I didn’t know that. It was an upgrade the other day, so if 3.14 was just released, let me see if that works. By the way, there was no error message … just didn’t display anything on the site.

I will try 3.14 and let you know if that fixed it.

    Thanks Bas!

That fixed it, Bas. I guess it was the 3.13 version that was the problem. Thanks for you quick response!

    Hey John,

Glad we got you up and running. We’d really appreciate it if you’d give MaxButtons and our support a rating. Helps get the good word out. Just go here.

    Best,

Bob, Bas and the Max Foundry team

    Happy it’s fixed.

Next time when you get a white screen of death (hopefully not by our doing) in WordPress you can see the error message using WP_DEBUG , the errors are hidden by default ( which is good for a production website ) .
