    I have a food blog: https://professorsalt.com

My issue: An intermittent problem where none of my background images shows up. These include my masthead photo (of cheese), the tiled gif images in the background, nor the Creditds graphics (the little banners for “Powererd by WordPress” XHTML validation). Instead, what shows up are the background colors specified in the CSS file.

It’s an intermittent problem, which is why I’m puzzled. When I typed in my URL from a friend’s dial up connection, and got the error. This is a WinXP box w/ Firefox & IE. From my home or my work, it won’t error out UNLESS I type in the URL like so, with the extra dot and slash after the domain:

    https://professorsalt.com./

Then I get the missing graphics.

Can anyone help me isolate the problem? I’ve read through some older posts saying it’s a index permissions issue on my server. I’m not savvy enough to understand why this would cause intermittent problems rather than persitent problems.

  • It’s not permissions – such errors would be constant.

I see your page just fine in IE and FF on XP.

Hi podz, Thanks for checking it out. Like I said, it’s intermittent and I don’t know why.

I should have asked folks to try this URL first, the one that forces the error:

    https://professorsalt.com./

Then try it without the extra dot and slash after the domain, and you should see the background images correctly:

    https://professorsalt.com

If you do it the other way around, I think the correct version is already cached and prevents you from seeing the errors.
