• I’ve just completed the desktop version of my new portfolio site and used video within each header.

These header videos, or background videos, don’t play on mobile devices…and it’s annoying.

The theme I’m using (Noha) replaces the videos with images by default. Would anyone know of any way to override this within the theme’s code or via a plugin?

    Any help greatly appreciated!

  • Hi, @seedubb

To override the theme’s default behavior and enable videos on mobile devices, you may need to modify the theme’s code or install a plugin that provides this functionality.

Here are a few potential solutions:

Use a plugin: Several WordPress plugins can help you enable videos on mobile devices.
    1. WP Video Lightbox allows you to embed responsive videos in a lightbox that works on desktop and mobile devices.

Convert your videos to a mobile-friendly format: If the issue is related to video format compatibility, you may be able to resolve it by converting your videos to a format that is compatible with mobile devices.

For example, MP4 is a widely supported video format that should work on most mobile devices.
You can use a video conversions tool like Handbrake or Adobe Media Encoder to convert your videos to a mobile-friendly format.

Test your changes to ensure they work as expected on all devices and browsers.

    Thank you.

Thanks Shariful. They are MP4 files and encoded to be as small as possible whilst still retaining quality.

A lightbox would usually involve the user clicking to open the video and it being displayed over the top of the content, as far as I’m aware. Is that right?

These videos need to remain behind the content and titles on the page though. I’ll see what other plugins may be available but I think it’s something in the theme’s code that needs address.

Would there be something in the page’s loading sequence that recognises a mobile device and could be removed?
