Backing up site

To upgrade Word Press, I am told to 1st back up my site. So even though I have a paid, daily Codeguard backup service, I am trying to backup to my computer, and it seems such a convoluted process. I try a suggested free program. “Your download of WinSCP-5.21.7-Setup.exe will start shortly…” but instead I get Winzip, free evaluation for 21 days. I think maybe I made a mistake and go back to try again but the same thing happens.
