Backup and import to localhost – now a paid feature?

    It’s annoying when plugin developers change the rules in an effort to get more cash.

    Previously it was possible to backup and import a site to a localhost dev environment with the free version of Backup Guard. This should NOT constitute a “migration”. Localhost is a site that only one person ever sees for testing and bug-fixing purposes. It’s not a new location on the internet.

    Now when you try this it actually goes through with the process except it triggers an “error” and you have to look in the logs to discover the devs want money.

    Poor form. Can anyone recommend a plugin that simply backs up a site to a localhost environment without requiring a credit card?

    @jaywalker999 We are sorry for the misunderstanding, but migration always was a PRO option. Migration is not just restoration, and there is no difference between localhost or live site. All tables need to be refactored to be compatible to the new environment.

    Starting from a simple db prefix to more complex paths and urls, all are considered migration since these have to be refactored in a correct way to be able to work in the new environment.

    With the free version you can backup and restore as much as you want, as long as the destination environment is the same, and by environment I mean site url, db prefix, etc.
