Backup Failed

The backup runs on schedule but fails.
I tried it several times manually and it always fails when creating the zip file around 11Mb in size. Heres the screen message:Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Backup failed!

It could be a memory issue. I downloaded all three and ran a backup on my test site without any issues.
Make the following change in cyan-backup/includes/class-wp-backuper.php on line 321:

I put the changes in the file, cleared the archive flag and temp files and ran backup again.
It failed proper this time, no zip file, no email.First few lines of the log file;

Let me try adding some files to my test install and see if I can get it to fail based on file count.
Ok, I’ve done a test backup with over 10,000 files, no issues, though it did take a while.
Can you check your last log, just before the archiving starts there should be a line like “Using ZipArchive class.” or “Using PclZip class.” and let me know which one?

[2014-03-13 19:48:07] emalloc: 22374924 total: 22806528I’ve done a new release that will allow you to disable the use of ZipArchive, go to the options page and select “Disable ZipArchive” and try the backup again.
I got the new release, disabled ziparchive and ran backup, still the same exclusions, the 3 mentioned previously.
On the backup page, I got 2 internal server error messages, a red cross next to the backup button but no backup failed message.
The zip file has created ok but there is no email and the backup.active file is still there.The status.log shows this;

I checked the hosting control panel and cannot see anything so have logged a support request.
Will have to wait and see what they come back with.Whilst waiting for the hosting support to come back to me, I had kept trying the backup and it kept failing, but creating the zip file as before. The largest zip file I got to with just 2 exclusions was 35Mb.
Then I got this response from the hosting support;

We would like to apologize for the duration it took us to reply back to your email. As much as we strive to respond to all emails within 48 hours, we occasionally experience extraordinary email volume, resulting in delayed response time and for this, we apologize profusely.
Meanwhile, the issue you had with your wordpress site was an intermittent issue due to the limitation of shared hosting. The package limitations restrict the use of no more than:
– 60 seconds of 100% CPU usage
– 128MB of memory
– 16 simultaneous processesIt is common to experience 500 errors intermittently when the package limitations have been exceeded which may correspond to swells in traffic during the day.
I think they took their time because they found a mistake with my hosting package, it should have upgraded from 30Mb memory to 90Mb last year when the servers were updated. I dont think it happened and now they are saying its up to 128Mb.
I ran the backup again, same as before, it failed again but the zipfile is created ok, however it was only 20 Mb size.
I took out the remaining exclusions and ran the backup again. It failed again, but the zipfile is created ok and its now 21.9 Mb.
As before, there is an internal server error message, backup failed message and no email, the backup.active is still there.If I refresh the backup screen when it failed, it shows these messages and lists the zip file;

– 60 seconds of 100% CPU usage
The backup process could easily peg the CPU for 60 seconds and your host will then kill the process.
Ok, I’ll ask them if its possible to increase the 60 secs limit.

You can go back to using ZipArchive now instead of PclZip, then those files won’t be created.
I might add an option to introduce a slight delay between files as they are archived, it would extend the backup time but wouldn’t trigger this kind of thing limit.
I switched back to ZipArchive and tried backup.
It failed and produced an incomplete zip file of around 11Mb.
The log file is twice the size of before at just over 2Mb.Here is the status.log;
