    Hi!
I made a backup of my site to Dropbox, and the plugin Updraftplus seems to work fine, in WordPress it shows the backup, and sent to Dropbox.
However, when I go to my Dropbox account, the folder is created, but it′s empty…

I tried to rescan, but nothing appears in the folder, and I don′t understand.
I followed the video tutorial too.
I made a screenshot, but cannot seem to attach it here.

I HOPE someone can help as it SHOULD be simple but I”m spending sooo much time again ??

    Hi Rachel,

Did you check directly online? eg. dropbox.com
The backups are stored by default in the ‘Apps/UpdraftPlus.com’ folder for UpdraftPlus free version.

You can send screenshots using this online tool – https://snag.gy/

    Dear Bryle,
Like I said, the folder Apps/UpdraftPlus.com is there, but the folder is empty
    And yes, I’m in Dropbox.com.
So what can I do? I just don’t know anymore. it’s been over 48h now.
Also, I could send you a screenshot of my wp backend, but I can’t attach or paste it here.
    Can you please help?

    Thank you

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay over the weekend.

Please could you send us a copy of the latest backup log?

This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.

The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Best Wishes,

    Ashley

    Hi Ashley,
    Thank you!
I never heard of Pastebin, is that something to paste the entire log? I’d have to register into that site then.
Meanwhile, problem solved. I did another backup and it’s now stored in DRopbox.
    YEAH!!!!
    But I still wonder :
1- why it’s important to have in Dropbox, because basically, I could do a restore from my Wp site, right?
2- Some say I should do an automatic backup, some say I should ONLY do it manually when I make big changes to my site. I now set it manually because I write a blog and plan to create more pages but not weekly.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thank you

    Hi Rachel,

It is generally recommended to store the backups on some form of cloud or external storage to protect against the issues that affect the entire site.
If the backup is not uploaded to remote storage, it is stored in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of the site. If the ‘wp-content’ directory is wiped or otherwise lost in this case, the backups will also be lost.

If the site is not being updated regularly with content, you may find that it is enough to take a manual backup whenever you make a change.
If you are posting regular updates to the blog (or you have reader interaction such as comments enabled), but not otherwise changing the content of the site, I would recommend scheduling regular backups of at least the database.
