    More for info than anything.

I’ve had no problems with UpdraftPlus in the past but more recently, backups fail if I’m trying to backup to Google Drive – usually with a timeout error.

I’m now successfully backing up by setting the split size to 25mb and only backing up to local storage. I then take a manual copy of the backup files and put them onto my Gdrive folder.

I’ve seen a couple of messages about potential cron queue issues and most recently a message saying that the use of Lightspeed web server possibly causing issues.

Here’s the thing: EVERY other backup plugin I use is working 100% fine (indeed every other plugin is working fine). Backing up to Google Drive using alternative backup plugins is working totally OK. I get no other error messages from any software I’m using.

I really like UpdraftPlus and had been considering buying the premium version but I’d need to be 100% confident before I did that. In the meanwhile, I’ll take a belt-and-braces approach and use multiple ways of backing up to multiple locations.

    Hi,

To help find out the cause of the issue, please could you send us a copy of the latest full backup log?
This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.
Please use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Hi Bryle,

do you want a log from a successful backup (i.e. to local using 25mb split) or do you want me to try to run one to Gdrive and put the split back to 200mb which is likely to fail?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Yes, please run a backup to Google Drive and set the archive size to 25mb.

    Hi Bryle,

Here’s the log you requested. I stopped it after a few minutes to avoid it going on for too long. I’ve edited out any specific references to the site this is being used on.

Just curious if you’ve got to the bottom of the problems?

I notice several support tickets being raised recently for similar problems.

Thankfully, I can still backup to remote storage with other plugins and use Updraftplus to back up locally.

    Hi,

    Apologies for the late reply.

“Upload error: Operation timed out after 60000 milliseconds”

This indicates that there is still a network issue occurring between your site and Google’s servers. You will need to ask your server admin/hosts to investigate the network connection.

It is possible that the connection is being killed off by a firewall or security module rule. Please could you ask your server admin to check any security module logs for if this is the case?

    Best Wishes,
    Bryle

    Thanks for the reply.

This issue ONLY happens with UpdraftPlus. I use a number of backup plugins and ALL of them work fine with my server hosting and Google Drive.

Therefore I can only conclude that the issue is with the UpdraftPlus plugin. If there was a network issue then surely the others would also face the same issues?

No matter. Thankfully I have other plugins which work fine so will continue to rely on those.
