On my site I am experiencing problems with making a backup of the site. The backup usually takes 15 -30 seconds but now it often runs for more than an hour.

The reason for this time increase seems to be a conflict with the Siteground ‘SG Optimizer’ plugin. As soon as the SuperCacher ‘AutoFlush Cache’ is enabled the backup time goes through the roof.

Is there any known issue or solution on what I can do to solve this issue (except from switching off the ‘AutoFlush Cache’)?

  • @belgarath – My name is Ivan Atanasov, part of the Senior Support team at SiteGround.

Could you please create a ticket from your SiteGround User Area -> Support and report the issue offering a step-by-step guide for recreating it? This way, we can share our findings as well.
(Please post the ticket ID here as well so that I can process it myself)

Hopefully this will lead to a solution to your issue much faster.

    Hi,

As well as opening a ticket with SiteGround could you also send us a copy of the latest backup log where this is happening?

This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.
The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Best Wishes,

@ivan: Thanky ou for looking into it. I have opened a support ticket with Siteground, the ID is 2133725.

@ashley: Thank you for your help. Here you can download a zip file that contains two log files.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/lzk7j7ukq8gdcp6/updraftplus-logs.zip?dl=0

The first one shows a working backup with AutoFlush set to ‘off’ – backup is ready after 15 seconds.

The second one shows a log file from a backup that I manually stopped after 5 minutes with ‘Autoflush’ set to ‘on’ – after 5 minutes it didn′t even finish to backup the plugins. For security reasons I have exchanged the website name with ‘mywebsite’.

I am posting this reply so that I can report that no compatibility issue was found on our end. The backup was completed successfully within the expected time (somewhere between 15-20 seconds)
Both plugins work correctly with or without the AutoFlush Cache option activated in SG Optimizer.

Also, the log file “log-autoflush-active-backup-manualy-stpeed-after-5minutes.txt” is incomplete (as a result from manually stopping the backup creation) and shows only one “timeout”.

I will be following this discussion of course, ready to help any assistance is required on my end.

I can confirm that it works now with Autoflush set to ‘on’. Thank you Ivan, even if you say you didn′t have to do anything to make it work. I′ll post again should the problems show up again. For the time being this support thread can be closed.

    Hi,

I checked over the logs and there is nothing obvious as to what is going on.

If this problem happens again could you try and get a full backup log rather than a partial one.

If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

    Best Wishes,

    Ashley

@ashley: Here is a full logfile that took more than one hour to complete, maybe that gives more information – right now everything seems to work again:
