Dear David, I have no code skills and the most primitive of knowledge but I use your Updraft regularly to BackUp. These backups are correctly stored at Google and I can see and prune from time to time. Lately I had a problem(not yet figured out) on the website (www.themorningbugler.com) which I run at my expense for disabled UK Fire Service Veterans.
So for the first time I used the Restore facility. Worked like magic..phew..but I continued to try to resolve my problem. The only thing I lost was my WP Stats for that day not a huge issue…
Continuing to wrestle with my problem I needed to restore again but it seems I can only use the original Backup once and so I stepped back to the next Backup and that also succeeded.
Am I doing something wrong or is that how it is supposed to work in that I can only use the last BackUp once and must step back to the next Backup?
Thanks for the work and the use of your skills…Paul

    Hi,

When you restore the database from an older backup, you are rewinding to that point in time. That being so, UD’s list of existing backups won’t include backups that hadn’t completed at that point in time – because UD’s information is also, necessarily, stored in the WP database that just got wound back. To scan your Google Drive folder for as-yet-unknown backups, click on the “Rescan remote storage” link in the UD “Existing Backups” tab. It will then look in your Google Drive folder and list all the backups it finds there.

    David,
thank you.It was set up correctly and mirrors the Backups held in Google. The point I did not make very well was can I keep repeatedly using the last BKup to Restore or do I have to step back every time to the BKup before?
    Thanks again Paul

    Hi Paul,

I’m not sure I’ve understood the question… your last reply sounds like the question I was intending to answer in my reply, but I must have misunderstood something. Can you clarify what in my previous reply didn’t seem to match the question you were asking?

    Dear David,
Poor word construction on my part…
Whilst working on my website I make a major error and I need to Restore from a BackUp. I use the latest BackUp and hey presto the magic works…well done UpDraft!
Next, because I am stupid, I repeat my major error and once more I need to Restore from a BackUp. I again try to use the last BackUp (the one I used before)selecting the same last BackUp but it does not seem to work so well. So I step back to the second last BackUP and that works ok.
    Q. When I use the latest BackUp does this only allow its use once and must I always step back to the next one on the list? Or am I doing something wrong(most likely)? Thanks Paul

    Hi Paul,

After restoring, if you want to restore the same set again, click on the “Rescan local storage” link first (if the backup is in wp-content/updraft) or “Rescan remote storage” (if it’s in the cloud). Otherwise, you’ve restored to a time when not all of the backup existed (because it was still in progress) so UD doesn’t yet know about it.

    David
