Backup stalls and then says Not Finished

When I click “Backup Now” the backup begins and gets about 60% of the way through. The progress bar displays shows
“Thu, March 20, 2014 12:36 – next resumption: 1 (after 173s) – show log – delete schedule
Uploading files to remote storage (60%, file 4 of 5)”
After the time in the countdown is exhausted it moves on to “next resumption: 2 (after xxxs)”It does this about 6 times and then just stops attempting the backup.
Last backup job run: No backup has been completed.
Backups, logs & restoring: 5 set(s) available
All 5 sets show “(Not Finished)”. I am not sure if there is a setting I should change or something else affecting the backup attempts. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need more information to assist with this problem. Thank you!
